πŸ¦₯ Great Sloth Race

The slowest game of all time crawls into focus!

The Great Sloth Race is an asynchronous, in-team game.

Every day, you and your teammates make bets on the progress of some very slow sloths. At the end of the day, the sloths move, and any relevant bets are evaluated.

When a sloth crosses the finish line, all bets are evaluated and the game ends. Whoever has the most money at the end, wins.

Play the Great Sloth Race to accumulate points towards the Sloth Hoodie (requires 100 points to unlock).

How it works

First, you start the game by choosing which days are off-days for the sloths (and the bettors).

Then, you receive a lot of information. Let's break it down.

The sloths

Four sloths race across the top of the screen. You and your team are betting on these sloths.

Every day, each sloth is given one banana. That banana encourages them to randomly move between 1m and 3m at the end of the day. Yes, these are especially slow sloths.

In addition, sloths can be fed or spooked by players - more on that below.

Taking actions / bets

In the bottom right, you receive a set of 8 options. By default, the bottom two are selected.

Every day, you select two options. You can come back and change them at any time; they are automatically committed when the timer runs out.

There are 3 types of actions.

  1. πŸ₯± Basic income - this is the default. You earn 10 coins. There's no bet involved.
  2. πŸ’° Bet - bets cost nothing and may or may not earn you any coins. If the bet pays off, you earn the amount specified underneath, between 20 and 200 coins. You might earn more by making the non-obvious bet!
  3. 🍌Feed / πŸ† Spook - if you feed a sloth, it moves forward an extra 1m - 3m (random) the next time sloths advance. If you spook a sloth, it moves backward 1m - 3m.

These feeds / spooks add up to determine the sloth's movement. For example, let's say Doug feeds the green sloth and Vivek spooks it.

Green would get the default 1m-3m, plus 1m-3m, minus 1m-3m. Each of these are independent and randomly determined. So it could be +3m +3m -1m = +5m, or +1m +1m -3m = -1m for the day.

The leaderboard and log

In the bottom left of the UI, you see all of the bettors and their historical actions.

When reading the log, note that bets that have paid off are bolded, bets that have not paid off have a strikethrough, and bets that haven't been evaluated yet are italicized.

End of race bets are hidden, so you never know who is really going to win until the end!

Unlocking the Sloth Hoodie

Once the game ends, players will be credited with points towards the Sloth Hoodie.

By default, all players get 20 points; first, second, and third place will all get extra points. The number of points they get depends on the team size.

Wrap up

The Great Sloth Race will slowly exit Pesto in a couple months. πŸ¦₯πŸ¦₯πŸ¦₯
