Pesto raises $5M to make remote work more human

Check out the news in TechCrunch.

Over the past 2 years, we have undergone the biggest change in the way that people work since the Industrial Revolution, and the result has been chaos.

People are Zooming from offices that are at 10% capacity (the worst of both worlds). Employees are resigning en masse in the form of “the Great Resignation”. And, we still primarily use the same tools we used before the pandemic – tools designed to augment an in-person work experience, not replace it.

At Pesto, we envision a world where remote work is more effective and less lonely than the office; where interacting in a digital workplace is more powerful and convenient even when people happen to be physically collocated.

When we started working on Pesto in 2019, we couldn’t have imagined how relevant that vision would become. Since our founding, more than 10,000 teams have signed up for a digital workplace, and in 2021, Pesto users logged over 100,000,000 voice and video minutes.

To further our vision, we’re thrilled to announce that Pesto has raised a $5M seed round led by Jett Fein and Jaja Liao at Headline with participation from Manu Kumar at K9 Ventures, Wesley Tang-Wymer at Rucker Park Capital, Bryan Chang at Collaborative Fund, Lee Hower at NextView Ventures, Wesley Barrow & Amit Chu at Correlation Ventures, Tony Liu & Varun Gupta. We’re also excited to bring on incredible leaders as advisors and investors including Yuhki Yamashita at Figma, Garrett Lord at Handshake, Nikil Viswanathan & Joe Lau at Alchemy, and more.

Today in Pesto, co-workers build a digital workplace together that’s authentically human. They customize their avatar in the workplace, which takes the place of video to be less fatiguing and more personable. Then, they create a variety of rooms – organized spaces for audio-first collaboration that include screenshare, video, games, or spatial features. Together, avatars and rooms empower teams to work together in ways that are more organic and immersive.

With the new funding, we are expanding our team (which already grew from 2 to 8 last year), particularly on the engineering side. If you’re interested in roles, please check out our jobs page.

We’re also growing Pesto as an enterprise product (we’re well on our way to being SOC-2 compliant) and expanding the depth of our digital workplace, with a whole suite of new rooms and avatar types on the horizon.

Finally, we’re scaling Pesto to better support the large teams who’ve wanted to use Pesto but haven’t been able to.

We’re beyond excited to make our vision a reality for you.
